dients, thus minimizing the ecological footprint of this
business segment.
Another example of good environmental practices in
2012 is found in the 38 Burger King stores where broiler
(industrial grill) equipment was reworked so it could be
fed by gas instead of electricity. This led to estimated
energy savings of from 12% to 15%.
Also noteworthy was the fact that in 2012 KFC received
the Rock in Rio Sustainable Attitude Prize awarded du-
ring each Rock in Rio to partners who follow the sus-
tainability plan developed by the organization and for
their sustainable approach within the City of Rock. This
prize aims to encourage good environmental, social and
economic practices that help achieve sustainable deve-
lopment.
KFC was distinguished in the Store category for
its exemplary fulfilment of good practices, espe-
cially through the following actions:
• drafting of Sustainability Report;
• controlled flow of water used in the City of Rock;
• communication to public about sustainability measu-
res considered in the scope of its activity and presence
at Rock in Rio, by means of signage placed in the unit.
Also noteworthy is the partnership work undertaken
with the logistics operator to streamline and minimize
energy routes, a process with very positive impact on
lowering CO
2
emissions to the atmosphere.
