to the environment. For these reasons, the most sustainable type
of lighting available in the market has been increasingly adopted in
the use of bulbs and ballasts, as well as decorative lighting, such as
menu boards, drives or illuminated advertisements.
The continuity of the On/Off plan –which aims to raise awareness to
the rational use of energy – has resulted in a reduction of approx. 18%
of energy consumption. Amongst some of the actions implemented
in this area, we point out the restriction to the consumption in peak
hours (for instance, by pre-heating the equipment in off-peak or
full periods); interruption of the equipments operation when they
are not being used (dish washing machines or coffee grinders, etc.)
and reduction of the temperatures in equipments that cannot be
turned off. Other measures taken to reduce energy consumption
include turning off water heaterswith automatic timers, placing light
sensors to turn off lighting in places that are not being used, and
reducing the contracted energy power in the electricity contracts
whenever possible.
A number of measures were adopted to reduce the inductive and
capacitive reactive energy, namely the implementation of 11 capacitor
batteries in units that did not have reactive energy compensation,
as well as the implementation of on/off controllers, with an expec-
ted return on investment within 12 months, and an annual saving
of approx. 12 thousand Euros. It should be noted that, through the
monitoring of the consumptions of electric energy, we were able
